AAP Technical Brief Supporting Municipalities in High-Income Countries to Strengthen People-Centered Decision-Making Summary

The conflict in Ukraine led to large number of women and children crossing into neighbouring countries; some staying, some transiting onwards, and others returning to Ukraine. In both Hungary and Slovakia, Municipalities were at the forefront of service delivery for those displaced and in supporting integration efforts. Here, UNICEF partnered with Municipalities in service delivery and in strengthening systems, including systems and approaches for hearing from displaced families, shaping strategies and services based on evidence, and Accountability to Affected Populations (AAP) more broadly. In both countries, it is hoped these approaches developed and strengthened with UNICEF's support will have wider application - both in other Municipality services and continuing beyond the partnership with UNICEF.
